Joy

Wedding photo. We are poised to kiss. Heads covered in confetti. He is wearing a dark suit and bow tie, white shirt. I'm wearing a blue and white flowery dress and carrying a bouquet of sunflowers.

Last evening I felt frustrated with my blog and my lack of desire for writing. I was feeling like I was going through the motions. Actually though I think I was just tired after a trying day. It is that area of my life where I am going through the motions. Life itself is something of a joy.

I was struck by Molly’s introduction to this Revelations prompt. That we don’t always embrace those opportunities, some of them small, for joy. Maybe that we think we don’t deserve happiness. Certainly I think I felt some of that back in the day.

One of the fantastic things about this blog is to look back and see how far I’ve come. To have found a relationship that makes me happy with a man that I love. I didn’t expect that to happen and could so easily have prevented it from happening. But I am thankful I did not.

So many joyful things have happened to me this past few years. So much so that the painful memories, the less good time pale away. So these words from the poem by Mary Oliver that Molly quotes ring true:

If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy,
don’t hesitate. Give in to it.

The biggest joy for me in recent times was our wedding. A day filled with joy, happiness, after and tears. But not tears of sadness, tears of joy. Photo above of that day.
