“Habit is habit and not to be Flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time”
Mark Twain
New habits are pretty challenging to form and embed in life, especially where they are conscious ones. Like for example going to bed at a particular time, intermittent fasting, healthy eating etc.
Maybe thinking about this quote, it is trying to put too many habits in place at a time that dooms us to failure. I’m fairly sure I’m guilty of that. Bad eating or over eating habits didn’t form over night and I’m pretty sure I didn’t choose multiple poor choices at once. They creep up on you unconsciously.
On Monday our shops begin to open up again along with gyms and the swimming pool. Yay. Definitely for the shops and the pool. I keep wondering about the gym but am not sure I can make that a regular habit like I have done with the pool before. The shops will be a novelty, many of the ‘non essential’ ones closed well before Christmas. Which made shopping for the festivities more difficult and probably ended up with an over reliance on Amazon etc.
Anyway, give me the habit of a weekly swim and the walk there and back and I’ll see what I can do with that. I really can’t wait!
